In an obscure cormner of the BBC a quasi scientific article argues for the fact that speaking english makes you poor. I blame not the author but the editors for allowing such drivel to pass muster and appear in the hallowed pages.
Tell it to Kenneth Branagh or Christopher Fry or a host of other speakers of the language who master the art which English is. Mellifluity and superb syntax flows off the tongues of millions of educated English and a wide gulf seperates them from the billions of rabble who mangle and mash the language on a daily basis, most Americans included. In fact what pases today as English in many corners and wide open spaces of the globe is quaint and amusing but really ought one and all to be reclassified as seperate languages distict from their illustrious root.
