the Blue Marble….
The first photograph from space that showed planet Earth completely lit up by sunlight, was called the Blue Marble, and was taken from Apollo 17 on its way to the moon, in 1972. It was taken with a Hasselblad camera.
Now, 40 years later, a new, super sharp version of Earth, a new “Blue Marble 2012” has been released. This one from images taken from 4 passes over the Earth on January 4, by a new NASA satellite called “Suomi NPP”.
