Todays Quiz. Who First Brought Jazz to the White House?

Now who would imagine that Jazz, one of the greatest cultural movements in America, would for the first time be brought to the white house by Richard Nixon. I shit you not.

Tricky Dickie and the Duke at the White HOuse

IT happened in 1969, on the 70th birthday of Duke Ellington. He was invited to the White House to perform and be presented with the nations highest civilian award, The Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The Duke receiving the Medal of Freedom.

The Duke grew up near the White House and his father was a Butler there.

He was treated like a Head of State (The Duke, not the Butler) , by Nixon. Now aint that just something?
